The article presents a speech by Church History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) historian Brittany A. Chapman, delivered in Salt Lake City, Utah, on March 13, 2014, on the topic of history as a historical source, particularly concerning the Mormon Church. It discusses the poetry of Mormon leaders Joseph Smith, Wilford Woodruff, and William W. Phelps found in a book owned by 19th century Mormon Barbara Matilda Neff Moses, the poetry of Mormon Ruth May Fox, and poetry as a means of expressing sentiment and religious conviction.
