- Abstract
The article offers information on variety of leaves which are used for wrapping tamales which are traditional Mesoamerican dish made of maize-based dough steamed in different kinds of leaves. Topics discussed include information on use of banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) and maize (Zea mays) leaves for wrapping tamales; use of leaves of the genus Oreopanax for wrapping tamales; and use of monocotyledons for wrapping tamales because of their physical and mechanical characteristics.
