- Abstract
The theme of this paper is singing in the first three grades of primary school. The research was carried out on the frequency of musical activities in other subjects and on what songs the first, second and third grade sudents prefer singing. The research was carried out at Franjo Krežma primary school in Osijek within three weeks of the school year 2009/10. The study included 67 students from 1st to 3rd grade. Upon the survey it can be concluded that the songs that are sung in the first three grades are suitable for children's age. They perform the songs prescribed by curriculum, but also songs by the free choice of their teachers. The songs are presented in the class by ear method. Students of the first three grades love to sing songs of cheerful and happy nature, moderate to fast tempo and playful melodies. Students of the third grade prefer singing popular children's authors and artistic songs to folk songs. Musical activities are included in other subjects, mostly in physical education, whereas mathematics classes do not include them at all.
