- Abstract
The article discusses Portuguese contributions to the development of weather forecasting and meteorology in Europe through an examination of the meteorological observations undertaken at the University of Coimbra in Coimbra, Portugal. Emphasis is given to the work of physicist Jacinto António de Sousa during the 19th century. The author also focuses on the operations of the university's Meteorological and Magnetic Observatory up until the consolidation of Portugal's meteorological services into the National Meteorological Services (NMS).
