- Title
MODELING LATE ARCHAIC/LATE PREHISTORIC SETTLEMENT AND SUBSISTENCE IN THE SAN LUIS VALLEY, COLORADO.
- Abstract
The article presents information on an archaeological excavation of two sites in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. Associated with the Great Sand Dunes Eolian System Anthropological Project, they are designated as 5AL639 and 5AL640. Radiocarbon dates indicate that these sites belonged to the transitional era between the Late Archaic and Late Prehistoric periods. They featured charcoal stains, fire-cracked rock, and stone implements. Evidence that the sites were seasonally used by Native Americans for the harvest of piñon nuts is presented.
