- Title
OVERLOOK SITE.
- Abstract
The article presents information on an archaeological excavation of the Overlook Site in north-central Colorado. The site lies out of the wind and provides an excellent vantage point for locating game. The artifacts recovered from the site indicate that it served as an effective hunting outpost in multiple time periods. Late Archaic period hunters were the first to occupy the site and artifacts recovered indicate they likely repaired and prepared new weapons while scouting for bison. Later a Late Preshistoric group, such as the Plains Apache or Shoshone, also made use of the site's valuable view point and use the site for hunting purposes. The author notes that the 12 kill and butchering sites within the view of the site speak to its effectiveness as an outpost.
