- Abstract
The article discusses the 1617 Jacobean oil portrait of Anna of Denmark, wife and queen of British King James I, James VI of Scotland, by Flemish artist Paul van Somer. It discusses her art patronage and both her cultural and political influence. The article considers the portrait's use of a typically masculine pose, her hunting garb, and the portrait's depiction of Oatlands Palace.
