The author reflects on the third wave of democratization that began in 1974 with Portugal and brought democratic transition in more than 60 states including Europe. An overview of political and electoral reforms adopted by Germany or Italy that obstructed democracy is presented. He states that the uprising of the Arab Spring during the Spanish revolution has caused democratic transitions in many states and social media has helped to analyze contemporary and future movements of democracy.
