- Abstract
This study aimed to determine the influence of child obesity in the development of adult hypertension. The sample included 46 users of a Health Service in a city of the state of São Paulo, assisted during the period of September of 2008 to February of 2009. Child nutritional state was classified through the percentile record. Blood pressure was measured by indirect method, in compliance with the Brazilian Hypertension Guidelines. Current anthropometric values were obtained according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization. Data were exported and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science - SPSS, for calculations of absolute frequencies and percentages. The occurrence of significant blood pressure changes and risk factors for hypertensive diseases was observed, independent of nutritional condition in childhood. These findings confirm the importance of the control and assessment of these risk factors in the whole population.
