- Abstract
Background: Due to the increased porosity and decreased physical characteristics of the affected enamel, a major proportion of molar incisor hypomineralization-affected teeth have hypersensitivity. For such teeth, some early intervention must be undertaken to reduce sensitivity, prevent the development of adjunctive dental caries and minimize the risk of PEB. Professionally applied topical fluoride preparations, desensitizing dentifrices, and casein phosphopeptideamorphous calcium phosphate topical preparations can all be considered to prevent sensitivity in hypomineralized teeth. Aim: The aim is to evaluate and compare the clinical success of 5% NaF varnish, GC Tooth Mousse Plus® (CPP-ACP and 0.2% NaF), and Clinpro™ Tooth Créme (0.21% NaF and tricalcium phosphate) in desensitization of molar incisor hypomineralization-affected teeth. Materials and Methods: The study is a randomized controlled trial involving 60 children between the ages of 7-14 years. The study population is randomly divided into three groups. Group I - 5% fluoride varnish application, Group II - 5% fluoride varnish application + home care with GC Tooth Mousse Plus®, and Group III - 5% NaF varnish + Clinpro™ Tooth Crème. Tooth sensitivity is assessed with air-blast test (Schiff Cold Air Sensitivity Scale), and Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale, and the modified-Quigley Hein plaque index will be used to determine the oral hygiene status of each patient. Results and Observations: The data obtained will be subjected to descriptive statistics such as mean, median, and standard deviation with appropriate inferential statistical tests applied after checking the normality of the data. Conclusion: This will be based on the results obtained.
