- Title
In Adorno's Broken Mirror: Towards a Theory of Musical Reproduction.
- Authors
Barry, Barbara R.
- Abstract
Towards a Theory of Musical Reproduction is one of Adorno's major books on music. While centered on practical problems of performance and reproduction, Adorno investigates a wide range of issues from interpretation and notation to philosophical questions about music's relationship to society. Like his book on Beethoven, Towards a Theory of Musical Reproduction was left unfinished at Adorno's death. The mosaic- like notes provide insight into Adorno's central preoccupations in music, and at the same time, intentionally or not, reflect the brokenness that he regards as intrinsic to contemporary music and to society itself.
