The article looks at the role of Kodo, a Japanese performing arts group, in preserving the tradition of taiko, a traditional Japanese drum. The instrument made its way via China with the introduction of Buddhism. Kodo established Earth Celebration as a venue to invite other artists back to their home base of Sodo Island. The group is planting Japanese zelkova trees in the Kodo Village to build future drums.
