- Title
Ethos in Jane Austen's Emma.
- Authors
KLEMANN, HEATHER M.
- Abstract
The article discusses the notion of ethos in Jane Austen's novel "Emma." The author argues that while realism plays an important role in the ethos of "Emma," it comprises only part of a didactic strategy that also employs generic parody and affective stylistics. Furthermore, the author suggests that the parody of literary form, in addition to a faithfulness to "real life," constitutes the didactic in Emma.
