- Abstract
The article discusses an education unit completed by 2nd grade elementary school students from Dedham, Massachusetts in which they created a tool to map a river. Topics discussed include tool creation as an engineering design challenge, the use of the Engineering is Elementary website developed by the Museum of Science in Boston, and the alignment between the lessons and the performance expectations found in the Next Generation Science Standards. The use of maps is also examined.
