Title
Beautiful "Flowers" Self-Assemble in a Beaker.
Abstract
The article discusses research conducted by postdoctoral fellow Wim L. Noorduin at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (SEAS) on the precipitation of crystals to form tiny sculptures with chemicals that are only visible with an electron microscope. Chemicals such as barium chloride and sodium silicate precipitate in water to form floral shapes from barium carbonate crystals.
