- Abstract
The article presents information on how the human body turns food into useful energy. In order to bring out the chemical energy stored in the foods one has to put some energy into the food. This can be done through chewing and enzymes the food in the digestive system. Through digestion the molecules will break down in the food into sugars and fats and finally a special molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP). ATP is the energy source of the body. The individual cells in the body transform ATP into a similar kind of molecule called adenosine diphosphate (ADP). Due to this transformation from ATP to ADP the energy releases, which is used by the cells for the functions of the body. However all foods are not the sources of energy. Though carbohydrates and fats are good sources of energy, proteins, vitamins and minerals are the building blocks for various processes for energy. The body manages this energy in a particular way. There should be a balance between the input of energy from food and the output of energy for body functions.
