- Abstract
The article discusses innovative solution to improve indoor air quality (IAQ). The Blue Valley North High School (BVNHS), Kansas City, Kansas, was facing the problem of several indoor air quality in its building. To rule out the problem the design team came with new and innovative design solutions. The project was started by the design team which was divided into two equal phases. The library, courtyard, classroom wings, and boiler plant were placed uner Phase 1. And the administration area, commons, gymnasiums, kitchen, and theater were in Phase 2. The design team, designed fourteen rooftops which were furnished with Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning system. Seven of the rooftops units were designed as constant volume units and the rest were variable air volume units with discharge damper. To increase the ventilation of the building the new air-distribution system "displacement ventilation design," increase air distribution and also reduces use of energy. It was analyzed before that one-third energy would be needed to heat, cool, and dehumidify outdoor air ventilation.
