- Abstract
The article focuses on a study examining the patterns of direct spending and economic impact of the 2007 Xterra World Championship held in Maui, Hawaii. XTERRA is a participant-oriented off-road triathlon. The study found that lodging was given the highest level of spending, followed by food and beverage. According to the author, hosting a participant-oriented sporting event boosts tourism and offers economic benefits for host communities.
