- Abstract
Finally, while maintaining extreme expositional rigour, Petri vividly presents the competing approaches, showing that behind political economy there is not only abstract reasoning that will lead to ineluctable conclusions ("an axiomatic analysis"), but also a passionate view of society, which, whatever it may be, is what makes economic theory interesting. The teaching of microeconomics is the area of political economy where a scholar is most likely to investigate in depth the theoretical premises and the basic assumptions of the discipline. For example, what classicals call "theory of value" neoclassicals call "price theory"; and "income distribution" becomes "factor price theory" in neoclassical jargon.
