- Authors
Toomey, Elizabeth
- Abstract
The article discusses the New Zealand Commerce Commission's role in determining anti-competitive practices in the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU). The author notes that as players became professionals, the NZRU became subject to anti-competitive commercial laws. She also notes how salary caps can be nebulous because it restricts spending and thus competition while at the same time helping to keep all teams in business. The author also discusses collective bargaining between the players and union, and weighs the pros and cons of anti-competitive practice in the NZRU.
