- Abstract
The precious metal jewelry market often has adulterated gold infringing consumer rights and interests. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) is commonly used in laboratories to detect jewelry element content. However, this method has limitations for samples with thicker surface coatings. Acoustic microscopic was used to test gold-plated silver and gold-plated copper samples. The samples are tested to obtain the relationship curve between the ultrasonic attenuation coefficient and the surface coating thickness, which can realize the quantitative analysis of the thickness of the coating samples, and obtain the internal information of the precious metal coated jewelry non-destructive samples, which could widely be used for the jewelry testing industry.
