- Abstract
In 2018, the current "classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases and conditions" replaced the previous classification from 1999. One of the aims of the current classification is to facilitate periodontal diagnosis in everyday clinical practice and to integrate scientific findings from recent years. The consistent clinical application of the current classification is highly desirable. At the same time, however, the last few years have shown that there are still some uncertainties and room for interpretation when it comes to implementation in everyday clinical practice. In particular, stage III and IV periodontitis often differ only in the presence of so-called complexity factors that require oral rehabilitation due to masticatory dysfunction. Thus, the aim of this paper is to provide guidance in the diagnosis of stage IV periodontitis based on four case reports from clinical practice.
