- Abstract
The article discusses concerns related to indigenous corporal punishment in Ecuador that do not fulfill all the requirements of an international human rights law (IHRL) which is made for treatment of torture or cruel, inhuman, and degrading punishment. It highlights right of indigenous people to make their own indigenous customary law. The IHRL recommends to ignore cultural practices of indigenous peoples by starting civilized punishments such as imprisonment.
