- Title
SOMALIA: Drought Response.
- Abstract
On August 23rd al-Shabaab launched a fundraising campaign to build a hospital in Kunya-Barrow town of the southern Lower Shabelle region. B Al Shabaab is blamed for worsening the crisis as it publicises its own initiatives. b In the face of severe drought, which the United Nations ( B UN b ) said has affected over seven million people I (See p. 23967A) i , the government blamed al-Qaeda-allied al-Shabaab for worsening the situation by interfering with farming activities and destroying wells, boreholes and communication centres. Some residents who spoke in the video praised al-Shabaab and criticised aid agencies claiming in the past they used to receive "diarrhoea-causing food" from the aid agencies.
