- Abstract
This article discusses the bioavailability of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) phenanthrene in soils in the presence of pyrene or benzo[a]pyrene. The authors used an aqueous cyclodextrin extraction technique and compared the result with indigenous microbial mineralization. They found that the presence of other PAHs had little effect on bioavailability of phenanthrene in any of the soils. They suggest that this extraction technique is able to predict the microbial accessibility fraction of phenanthrene under these conditions.
