- Abstract
This article examines a travelogue written by Chinese Grand Councillor Wang Anshi about the Baochan Mountain Cave. His travelogue is best recognized as a plea to ignore the throng and explore the surroundings. Wang mentioning his knowledge about the physical world may be misleading because it assumes that he takes moral, ethical or emotional exploration as the primary area of the ancients' daring sorties. More important to the Baochan Mountain piece is that as a young prose writer Wang had already shown he could place a friend's name in full view.
