- Abstract
Objectives: To recognize the nurses' perception of their mental health in an emergency unit and in the face of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Method: This is a qualitative, descriptive and exploratory study carried out in the emergency department of a cardiology institution in the state of Santa Catarina. Data collection took place through a semi-structured online questionnaire, and the data were analyzed using Bardin's methodology. Results: Half of the participants perform or have already performed follow-up with the psychologist/psychiatrist Some participants reported worsening of their mental health when working in the emergency department. Among the stressors presented in the emergency sector, the excess of assignments and low remuneration stood out. Feelings such as sadness and conformism were identified during cardiopulmonary resuscitation. About half of the professionals said they felt stressed about work. Final considerations: Nursing professionals did not perceive the occurrence of mental health as a result of working in the emergency sector, however, they were identified as worse factors and symptoms of stress in the sector in question. It was found that the failure in occasional cardio pulmonary resuscitation demotivation and sadness, suffered psychic suffering. It is crucial to promote the understanding of nurses' mental health in the emergency sector and carry out further discussions on this topic.
