- Title
An Evidence-Based Approach to Medical Care Raises Uncomfortable Questions.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article reflects on the analysis of screening mammography data in "The Lancet" and a subsequent Patient-Oriented Evidence That Matters review in "The Journal of Family Practice." The first limitation of the available research analyzed is the appearance of data loss in the trials indicated by differing reports of the number of patients in several of the trials. The second is the inadequate concealment of allocation assignment. Concealed allocation is a way to keep researchers from succumbing to human traits that get in the way of scientific method. Clinical practice guidelines often take years to produce, may influenced by politics more than an explicit evaluation of the best evidence and are not available for many clinical problems.
