- Abstract
The article presents a study which examined the impact of community college characteristics on the earnings of first time college students at the North Carolina Community College Systems from 2002-2003. Topics include characteristics of community colleges that enhance earnings independently of the attributes of individuals, how institutional factors affect the labor market returns to community college participation, and the importance of social contexts for explaining student achievement.
