- Abstract
A case study is presented on women feminist's political activism in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), India, including in regard to their work with nongovernmental organizations (NGOs). An overview of women activists' efforts to promote the rights regarding women's sexuality, including for sexual minorities and lesbians, is provided. An overview of the Kolkata lesbian organization Sappho for Equality (SFE), which is is composed of young, middle and lower-middle-class women, is also provided.
