- Title
Nitrogen limitation disappears with succession in many lowland tropical rainforests - as expected. Why the persistence in temperate latitudes?
- Authors
Crews, Timothy E.
- Abstract
The author discusses aspects of ecology and the nitrogen influences causing the abundance and distribution of species in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystem. He cites the study by Menge and Chazdon on higher survival that drives the success of nitrogen-fixing trees in the rainforest of Costa Rica. The author thinks that the study provides a sensible explanation on the role of nitrogen (N) limitation based on the degree and persistence of disturbance.
