- Abstract
This article reflects on the article "Where Did the Productivity Growth Go? Inflation Dynamics and the Distribution of Income," by Ian Dew-Becker and Robert J. Gordon. The author discusses the four broad issues discussed in Dew-Becker's and Gordon's article. Their article reviews measurement issues that must be understood to compare trends in labor productivity and real compensation per hour, it exposes some new ground on wage-price dynamics and then uses those dynamics to gauge the effect on the labor share of income. It also uses Internal Revenue Service tax data to analyze changes in income distribution.
