- Title
The proportional lack of archaeal pathogens: Do viruses/phages hold the key?
- Authors
Gill, Erin E.; Brinkman, Fiona S. L.
- Abstract
The article discusses theories affirmed regarding Archaea and on proposals for lack of disease-causing Archaea. It notes that they share characteristics possessed by pathogens one of which is being able to interact with eukaryotic cells. It indicates that Archaea may facilitate growth of disease-causing organisms rather than causing disease themselves. The article concludes that a better understanding of non-pathogenic Archaea may lead to a development of infectious disease control measures that recognize how virulence advanced and is conserved.
