- Abstract
This article discusses a case of congenital nonsyndromic anonychia, a rare disorder characterized by the absence of nails, specifically in the toes. The condition is believed to be caused by amniotic bands, which are strands that form when the amnion ruptures early in pregnancy. The article describes a 3-day-old male neonate who presented with the absence of all toenails but normal fingernails. The baby had circumferential constriction bands in the toes and over the ball of the great toe on the left foot. The diagnosis was congenital anonychia due to amniotic constriction bands. The article also mentions that amniotic band syndrome can lead to various congenital anomalies, including limb defects and craniofacial abnormalities, although the patient in this case was mildly affected. The article concludes by stating that this type of congenital nonsyndromic anonychia is a rare occurrence.
