- Abstract
The article focuses on the influence of World War II on the production and reception of Dutch visual art during the reconstruction period which was between 1945 and 1960. Topics covered include the factors that played an important role in the canonisation of the progressive Cobra movement and the relationship between art, war and memory in the Netherlands. A comparison between the Cobra movement and the Vrij Beelden Group is also presented.
