- Abstract
The subject of our reflection is the transformation of PIRLS (Progress in International Reading Literacy Study) 2016 in the turmoil of its immediate reception. In this process, the content of the study rapidly changes, while its scientific authority endures. This is a problem because PIRLS 2016 becomes a cover for right-wing populist positions. From this we conclude that educational research must reflect its social conditions if it does not want to jeopardise its scientific autonomy. Our critical approach introduces Bourdieu's participant objectivation to reflect educational research in terms of the social hierarchy of objects and its relational position in the scientific field as in society.
