- Abstract
Sotos Syndrome (SS) is a rare syndrome that requires multidisciplinary follow-up. Our objective is to present the view of a family that had one of the children diagnosed with SS, in relation to the knowledge of the health professionals who attended them and the impacts on the family environment. This is a descriptive and qualitative field research with the application of a questionnaire with those responsible. (CEP-UVV: 51528221.8.0000.5064). It was evidenced that the delay in the diagnosis negatively affected the family, exacerbating the feelings of frustration and fear during the diagnosis and also in relation to the future. Throughout the process, the unpreparedness of the entire team to care for the family was evident, however, the nursing team promoted an important reception to the family. Finally, we emphasize that professionals are unprepared to deal with rare syndromes, and it is important to increase discussions on this subject in the academy, increasing the theoretical basis on the subject.
