- Title
THE FAIREST IN THE LAND: THE DECONSTRUCTION OF BEAUTY IN PAUL MCCARTHY'S WS.
- Authors
FOERSCHNER, ANJA
- Abstract
The article discusses "WS," a multimedia installation by the American artist Paul McCarthy. More specifically, the author focuses on one particular aspect of the work: a white rubber dummy of a nude female figure displayed lying face up inside a deli counter. The author argues that the piece reveals much about McCarthy's use of the female body in his art, and how he provokes the viewer to think about beauty, bodily ideals, and how these attributes have risen to highest priority in contemporary society.
