- Abstract
Objective: The objective of this research is to design and characterize the bovine serum albumin and pectin microspheres used as carriers for the mesalamine drug targeting the colon to cure the ulcerative colitis decease. Materials and Methods: BSA/pectin mixture microspheres containing mesalamine drug were prepared by coacervation-phase separation technique. The size of the particles was carried out using optical microscopy. Entrapment efficiency was calculated and the in vitro release studies for the drug mesalamine were conducted using the USP dissolution apparatus. Infrared spectrum studies were conducted. Results: The parameters studied are percentage drug release, entrapment efficiency, size of the particles of the microspheres, and in vitro drug release of formulated microspheres. Conclusion: The results obtained in this research work clearly indicated that the microsphere carriers prepared for the carrying the mesalamine drug improved the adherence time of the mesalamine drug which results in curing the ulcerative colitis decease effectively.
