- Abstract
Aim: The aim of the study is to create awareness on baby bottle tooth decay among the South Indian population. Background: Tooth decay has historically been considered as the most important global oral health burden. It is one of the most common childhood infectious diseases. The purpose of the study was to assess the awareness of mothers about baby bottle tooth decay among the South Indian population. Starting infants off with good oral care can help to protect theirs for decades to come. Mothers give information that their child are taking sweetened food regularly and it may cause tooth decay. Results: From the result, it shows that 86% of mothers using a baby bottle. 57.7% of children sleeping with feeding bottle at night. 75% of mothers feel this could be the reason for tooth decay 0.81% of them are planning to stop the children from feeding bottle. Baby teeth are important for chewing food and speaking properly. Conclusion: The awareness of baby bottle tooth decay is more effective and also makes mothers more aware of the importance of milk teeth preservation as well as tooth decay prevention. Baby bottle tooth decay is one of the significant and costly diseases in the world. The mothers aware about the cause of the tooth decay in the children among urban area. More awareness should to be created to the mothers living in villages.
