- Abstract
A process of a legal cleaning up began between 1875 and 1891 because of a complaint from a resident of the city, about misappropriation of the town council lands located on the banks of Rimac River. In 1876, the "Sociedad de Fomento del Peru" (Society for the Promotion of Peru), owned by Enrique Meiggs was allocated with some lands that were occupied by the ancient wall of Lima, from Martinete to the plaza del Cercado (downtown Square), corresponding to the 3rd Section. This event created a real estate business and interests in buying lands of this area, but the activity continued in spite of the interruption caused by the Pacific War. In 1890, The interest of the Railway Company in buying these lands caused that the urban renewal works being done, continued their improvement process with the support of a private enterprise, in exchange of this the town council would give some of their lands located on the left bank of Rimac River. This study analizes the ingenieer's Felipe Arancivia proposal for water distribution of Rimac River and its later urbanization from Balta bridge to bridge of Stone, in the middle of a context of human renewal and real estate activity in the city periphery.
