- Abstract
A literary criticism is presented on the 1940 children's fictional book "The Lost Zoo," by African American writer of the Harlem Renaissance Countée Cullen and the 18th century English poem "Jubilate Agno" by Christopher Smart. Particular focus is given to the depiction of homosexuality, or queerness, and optimism within the aforementioned works, including in regard to the punishment of God in the Bible for homosexual behavior.
