- Abstract
The article discusses the Galápagos islands which are part of Ecuador and were explored by naturalist Charles Darwin in 1835. The Galápagos, which is an oceanic archipelago ecosystem, is facing increasing disruption as a result of tourism and the introduction of invasive species such as the wild pig. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa issued an emergency decree which stated the environmental risk caused by humans such as illegal fishing, to the Galápagos National Park and cited conservation as the government's top priority. Topics include how tourists are managed and the collaboration between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and Ecuador to eliminate invasive species.
