- Abstract
AISI 1010 steel is widely used as many engineering parts because of its good processibility, and relatively low cost. However, due to a low hardness of AISI 1010 has relatively low wear resistance. The low hardness at room temperature also has precluded their widespread use and application. Howewer, coating of its surface layer may be very effective to improve the poor wear. In this study, the mixed powders of Ni and WC on the surface of AISI 1010 steel was coated by using tungsten inert gas (TIG) method. The effects of thickness of the preplaced powder layer and current on the microstructure of the alloyed surfaces were investigated. After deposition, microstructural analyses including metallographic examination of the coatings were evaluated. It was observed that it has been solidified in different microstructures depending on the production parameters. When current is increased, it was observed that Widmansttatten type structures is occur and width of HAZ is increase. With increase of coating thickness, the amount of carbon in HAZ is increase.
