ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATION OF OFFSHORE (E&P) WASTE MANAGEMENT IN NIGERIA: HOW EFFECTIVE?
- Authors
Ofuani, Anwuli Irene
- Abstract
The article focuses on the effectiveness of the Environmental Guidelines and Standards for the Petroleum Industry in Nigeria (EGASPIN) associated with offshore oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) waste management in the country. It states that the regulation of offshore oil and gas E&P is within the federal government legislative competence. It mentions that the regulatory regime for oil and gas E&P activities is not sufficient and in need of amendment. It notes that the Nigerian Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) should address EGASPIN inadequacies and ensure effective waste management for offshore E&P.
