- Abstract
There remains limited data on the impact of Medicaid expansion on premature mortality and if any observed benefits are similar across leading causes of death. State-level random intercepts accounted for clustering at the state level and analyses were weighted according to state population size. Mortality rates for the leading drivers of premature death (< 65 years), cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD), have remained stagnant over the past decade in the United States (US).[1] Socioeconomic disparities in premature mortality persist, which may be partially related to limited healthcare access.[2] The Affordable Care Act (ACA) legislation expanded Medicaid coverage for adults < 65 years with income < 138% of the federal poverty level (FPL).
