- Title
South Australia July to December 2021.
- Abstract
Arguably, the overall proportion of stimulus spending is likely to be less than other states, especially larger states like Victoria which have tended to support more "big bang" stimulus measures. This new variant, and the state's opening up, unleashed significant pressures on the State government and tested the Premier's claims that the state was "Covid-ready" ( I The Monthly i , 19 January 2022). Government supporters were keen to praise the overall (low) headline figures and lower Covid-19 rates than in other states, and also noted the unfortunate timing of the state's opening up with the new Omicron variant. The period under review was a critical one for the incumbent Liberal government led by Premier Steven Marshall.
