- Abstract
The article examines instances of electoral manipulation and fraud in the Dalmatia region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1880s, focusing on a microhistorical study of municipal elections in Trogir and Split, Croatia. The author situates his arguments within the broader context of the history of constitutional and administrative law, elections, and democratization in Austria-Hungary in the 19th century. Topics discussed include institutionalized inequality in voting laws, appellate procedure concerning election fraud, and the relationship between political conflicts and ethnic relations.
