- Abstract
The article focuses on the findings of a study exploring the link of Maryland's new graduated driver licensing program to greater levels of parental involvement in, and restriction on, teenager's unsupervised driving. Teenagers with provisional licenses were interviewed before and after the new program took effect. There was an increase in the frequency of parental driving instruction and supervised driving of teenagers in the new program during the permit phase. There was no change in the amounts of supervised driving after provisional licensure. There was also an increase in the greater overall amounts of parental restriction on their driving.
