- Abstract
Based on an exploratory and qualitative study in British Columbia, this paper examines the lived experience of Pakistani skilled and educated immigrant women in the labour market under neo-liberalism. Using an anti-racist and feminist framework, this paper explores the following issues: (i) nature of settlement and transition to the Canadian society; (ii) gender dynamics in the households when it comes to employment; (iii) problems associated with accreditation of credentials; (iv) the intersection of nationality/race, religion, class, and gender; and (v) the role of provincial and federal government in the settlement of new immigrants.
